Process Service
what is process service?
Service of process is the formal procedure used in the legal system to notify an individual or entity that a legal action has been commenced against them. Under the principles of due process, the court cannot exercise jurisdiction over a person unless they have been properly notified of the claims and given an opportunity to respond. This notification typically involves the delivery of specific legal documents, such as a summons and a complaint, which outline the nature of the lawsuit and the required timeline for a legal defense.
The actual delivery of these documents is carried out by a process server (that's us!), a neutral third party who is not involved in the litigation. Depending on local statutes and the type of case, service can be achieved through personal delivery, leaving the documents with a responsible person at the recipient's residence, or through alternative service such as certified mail or via publication if the individual cannot be found. Once the task is complete, the server provides an affidavit or proof of service to the court, which functions as the official record that the defendant has been legally alerted to the proceedings.
